Paint Swedish Landscapes In Less Than An Hour!
Hej and welcome to Mastering Loose Watercolors: Paint Sweden's Golden Fields
If you've ever dreamed of capturing the serene beauty of Sweden's southern landscapes but felt unsure where to start, you're in the right place. This course is designed especially for beginners and those who might feel intimidated by the blank page.
Påarp, located just east of Helsingborg, is a charming village known for its lush greenery and, in spring, its breathtaking flower fields that blanket the countryside in vibrant yellow. These scenes provide the perfect inspiration for our watercolor journey.
Over the next few sessions, we'll explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting in a relaxed and supportive environment. You'll learn how to bring these landscapes to life on paper from simple sketches to layering techniques.
No need for perfection here; it's about enjoying the process, embracing happy accidents, and discovering your unique artistic voice.
So, gather your paints, find a cozy spot, and let's embark on this creative adventure through the heart of Sweden.
Assignment:
Your class project is to draw and paint your Swedish landscape in watercolor! This can be a scene featured in this class, or based on one of your photographs/references, or scenes you have observed outside.
You can also refer to the scanned paintings and photo references attached below, which will allow you to trace the drawing if you choose to do so. I recommend drawing each scene freehand. Drawing is an important step in improving your painting skills. This provides you with an opportunity to compose and plan your painting. Once you've finished the drawing, use the watercolor steps and processes included in the class demonstrations to complete your painting.
Materials:
Use any watercolor paints, pencils, watercolor paper, and brushes you have available. I recommend:
0.5mm mechanical pencil
Artist-grade watercolor paints - blue, yellow, and red
100% cotton watercolor paper or sketchbook
Watercolour Brushes - a mop brush and a variety of round brushes for detailing.
Getting Started:
Review the class demonstration videos first. You can also download the reference photos to trace/transfer over your drawing if you wish.
Looking to sketch and paint another scene? Research some free reference photo websites, pick one of your reference photos, or find an outdoor location to sit and paint. Using the steps and processes included in this class, create your own unique painting.
