Exploring psychological trauma and how to provide care and compassion to trauma survivors
This introductory course provides a foundational understanding of emotional and psychological trauma, along with strategies for delivering trauma-informed care that is compassionate, empathetic, and responsive. Trauma can affect individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and life circumstances. It may stem from a single event or a series of ongoing experiences and often involves a threat to one’s physical or emotional well-being—triggering intense feelings of fear, helplessness, and loss of control.
Traumatic experiences can profoundly influence how individuals view themselves, others, and the world around them. These experiences may disrupt biological, cognitive, and emotional functioning, impacting identity, relationships, and social engagement.
As healthcare and human services providers, it is essential to adopt approaches grounded in the principles of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC).
