This course is designed to help students develop a strong foundation in sketching and watercolor painting. Through a structured approach, students will learn to quickly capture landscapes, understand composition, and work with contrast.
The course begins with simple exercises to improve brush control and pencil sketching skills. Students will practice creating expressive lines, filling shapes, and transitioning from thick to thin strokes. Next, we move on to quick two-minute and three-minute landscape sketches, focusing on capturing essential forms without over-detailing. Students will also learn shading techniques to create depth and dimension in their sketches. As the course progresses, we introduce black-and-white watercolor sketches to help students analyze tonal values and contrast. Finally, students will apply these skills to a full-color landscape painting.
They will learn how to layer washes, manage color transitions, and balance light and shadow. The course emphasizes observation, quick decision-making, and developing an intuitive approach to painting.
By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently create landscape sketches, understand tonal relationships, and use watercolor effectively to convey atmosphere and depth. Whether a beginner or an aspiring artist, this course provides essential skills for future artistic growth.
