This is Part 1 of a 3 part course covering social expressions in colloquial Arabic in the Syrian dialect.

In this course, you will learn the common expressions used in everyday social interactions, such as making greetings, offering thanks or compliments, at special occasions, saying goodbye and even when sneezing or coughing. The course is given in colloquial Arabic with English commentary and notes. The colloquial Arabic used in the course can be understood in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. The course gives all commonly used expressions together with the replies that can be expected. The Introduction explains how to pronounce the English phonetic transliteration and there are notes on language and culture in each lesson to allow better understanding of the meaning for some of the common words. In addition, each lesson includes the usual meaning in English of the expression, plus a more precise translation if noticeably different from the usual meaning.
